Chain Maille
DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION:
Title: Spiral Bracelet
Course: Creative Metals 1
Artist: Cory Hitchcock
Teacher: Mrs. Johnson
Subject Matter: The subject is a spiral bracelet meant for a significant other
Medium: For the medium I used 14 gauge Nu Gold wire for this piece.
Project Goal: Overall the goal was to learn and become better at chain maille designs.
PERSONAL REVIEW:
My personal response to this project was that it turned out great and took a lot of dedication to that design as it got very confusing at times. I liked the overall design of this piece as it is very pleasing to the eyes. One think I disliked about this project was the extra effort it took to fix the bracelet after a mishap during construction. I liked this project because it was very fun and kept me motivated to see the final product. Next time I would try to take less time on the construction and maybe even try a different design.
PERSUASIVE EVIDENCE & APPLICATION OF LEARNING:
I first planned my design and then picked the material. I chose 14 gauge Nu Gold wire as I thought it would look better than the copper or nickel and hold look as though it held a little more value. I then wrapped it around a metal dowel rod to make a coil. I cut it into chain links which were all clamped together into a spiral pattern. Between the material of the bracelet and the complex looking design, its shining and sparkling color brings attention to the design of this piece. The texture of this piece is a very smooth material that ensures a scrape free fit. This piece also has a sense of balance too it as it is completely symmetrical and even on the wrist. The Chain Maille is by far one of my personal favorite pieces of art in my collection.
