Pierced and Riveted
DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION:
Title: Dog Pedant
Course: Creative Metals 1
Artist: Cory Hitchcock
Teacher: Mrs. Johnson
Subject Matter: Dog silhouette cut into a pendant
Medium: Nickel and Brass
Project Goal: Uses techniques with the jeweler's saw and tons of filing and sanding.
PERSONAL REVIEW:
I think that I chose this project in memory of my first dog. I liked the final product of this project as I thought It looked pleasing to the eyes. I think that I could've improved this project with soldering and if I'm given the chance to do this project again I would solder instead of rivet. My strengths on this project consisted of making nice smooth rivets for my 4 corners and centering each one exactly to every corner.
PERSUASIVE EVIDENCE & APPLICATION OF LEARNING:
The knowledge that I applied to this assignment are based on what we learned in the unit such as riveting and sawing, as well as filing down to flush smooth edges. The color of these two metals really made the image pop and contrast with everything else on the pendant. The steps I took consisted of getting my metal cut and tracing the image onto the metal plate from the planned sketch. The value this pendant holds to me is much greater as it is more of a token to remember my first dog as. The form I used consisted of filling my negative space with rivets or small nails. Proportion was also key in keeping the silhouette to scale with the sketch on the reference sketch.
